Georgina Butcher (born 2000 in Basingstoke Hampshire) is a London-based dyslexic composer and producer, currently working as a freelancer and pursuing an MMus in Composition for film and TV at the London College of Music.
She began her classical music education at age 7, learning to play the piano, the guitar at 8, and the flute at 9. She began composing at age 15, choosing to specialise in film and video games, inspired by her childhood. At university, she was introduced to experimental and electronic music, where she learned to incorporate it into a classical orchestral style and to develop a modern hybrid of orchestral and electronic, blending the two by applying expressive melodies and experimental timbres. The composer and styles that inspire her work constantly shift, but her top three scores are 1. How to Train Your Dragon, John Powell, 2. Zack Synder's Justice League, Tom Holkenborg, and 3. How to Train Your Dragon 2, John Powell.
Georgina began studying Film Composition with Leigh Phillips and Bartosz Szafranski in 2018 at the London College of Music (LCM), earning her BMus (1st) with honours in 2021. She returned to LCM in 2022 to study with Jan Willem de With and Bartosz Szafranski, where she will complete her MMus in Composition for Film and TV in February 2023. During her studies at LCM, she played the flute in the LCM Camerata conducted by Simon Rigby and composed music for the LCM Composition Festival in June 2022 and January 2023.
After completing her MMus, Georgina plans to pursue her career as a freelance composer and producer, creating music for film & TV and video games. She hopes to later return to academia to earn a PhD and continue her master's dissertation into studying the effects dyslexia has on musicians' abilities.
